STORY
Tsumugu Project was a community engagement initiative launched in 2018 to mark the 15th anniversary of Roppongi Hills. Rooted in the concept of "tsumugu" (weaving connections)—connecting people to people, people to place, and people to art—the project fostered relationships among multigenerational participants with ties to the neighborhood, working alongside artists.
Each program was named after the artist's medium—wood, sound, food, storytelling, dialogue, dance—with themes set for each iteration. Through the perspectives and approaches that art offers, we facilitated open, cross-generational dialogue, reflecting on the neighborhood's past and envisioning its future together.
The project also unfolded during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that underscored the vital importance of human connection. With the 20th anniversary as a milestone, Tsumugu aimed to trace the neighborhood's history and continue reimagining Roppongi's future through art.
つむぐプロジェクトは、2018年の六本木ヒルズ開業15周年を機に始まった、コミュニティ・エンゲージメントの実践です。「人と人、人と街、人とアートを紡ぐ」をコンセプトに、アーティストと共に、この街にゆかりのある多世代の人々との関係づくりに取り組みました。
「木、音、食、伝、話、舞」など、アーティストごとのメディアを活動名に生かしながら回ごとのテーマを設定し、街で生まれ育った人、暮らす人、働く人たちと交流を重ねました。アートの思考や視点を通じて、街の過去や未来に思いを馳せ、異なる立場を超えたフラットなコミュニケーションを大切にしながら、表現活動を展開しました。
活動期間中には新型コロナウイルス感染拡大も経験し、人と人との繋がりの重要性を再確認する機会となりました。20周年を一つの道標として、街の軌跡を振り返りながら、アートを通じてこれからの六本木を考え続けるプロジェクトでした。
