Mindscapes was an international cultural program that reimagined approaches to mental health through art and culture. Hosted by Wellcome, a UK-based foundation, the program connected four cities—New York, Bengaluru, Berlin, and Tokyo—to explore new perspectives on mental health challenges. With one in five people in Japan and one in four globally experiencing mental health issues annually, the program sought to bridge science, society, and culture in addressing these concerns.

In Tokyo, we organized "Convening"—dialogue sessions examining Japanese mental health from multiple perspectives—and the "UI Urban Research Project," an experimental collaborative investigation led by artists and youth. After a year of activities, the program concluded with Mindscapes Tokyo Week at Yurakucho Art Urbanism, where we presented our findings and reflections.

Central to Mindscapes was its respect for each city's cultural context and its emphasis on "Lived Experience"—valuing individual perspectives alongside professional expertise. By creating spaces for dialogue that transcended specialist boundaries, the program aimed to foster genuine understanding and spark new insights rooted in everyday life.
