STORY

The concept for String of Mu originated from a conversation with a friend who had been diagnosed with HIV. Despite available treatment options, the persistent social stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS prompted me to act. Performed collaboratively on World AIDS Day, December 1st, the piece was dedicated to my friend.

Drawing from traditional Japanese symbolism, I incorporated noodles—consumed as a prayer for longevity—and hair, symbolizing vitality. Together with performer Tanogashira, we conducted a 24-hour performance, continuously tying these materials together.

ムの紐は、HIV陽性と診断された友人との会話をきっかけに生まれた。治療方法が存在するにもかかわらず、HIV/AIDSに対する社会的な偏見と差別は根強かった。12月1日の世界エイズデーに、友人に捧げるパフォーマンスを行った。

長寿と延命を祈るために伝統的に食される麺と、命を象徴する髪（パフォーマー・田頭の自毛）を素材に、パフォーマーの田頭とともに24時間連続で結び続けた。
