Professional in School Project (PinS Project) was launched in April 2018 at Tomioka Town Elementary and Junior High School—a school that reopened seven years after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. My involvement with Tomioka began earlier, through advisory roles in regional education from 2015, which led to directing this project from its inception.

Artists, architects, musicians, and craftspeople join the school as "transfer students," using the building as their workplace while sharing daily life with the children—an artist-in-residence approach to education. The project's philosophy, the "PinS Model," centers on education without teaching: by intentionally holding back, adults create space for children to actively discover their own capacity for observation, insight, and imagination. Each transfer student also creates a work to remain at the school—an archive of memory, layering the experiences and time shared there.

The project ran until March 2023, continuing to ask what art and creative thinking can offer a community rebuilding itself on its own terms.
