STORY
In the past, a section of Boston's Chinatown was recognized as a bustling red-light district, frequented by numerous clubs and often referred to as a 'playground' for sailors.
Culture Clubbing was an evening of performances organized in the display windows of a Boston Ballet facility in Chinatown—evoking the burlesque style that once defined the neighborhood. Art as intervention; the street as stage.

Boston Chinatown History
Boston's Chinatown traces its roots to the mid-19th century, when Chinese laborers immigrated to the United States, finding work in railroads, steel mills, fishing, restaurants, and clothing industries. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 severely restricted immigration, forcing many displaced workers into Chinatown.
In the early 20th century, Chinatown became entangled in Boston's red-light district—plagued by brothels and drug trafficking, targeted by urban renewal, and further disrupted in the 1960s when highway construction destroyed parts of the neighborhood.
Despite these pressures, Chinatown thrives today as a culturally vibrant neighborhood—restaurants, shops, temples, residences—one of Boston's most distinctive communities.

ボストン・チャイナタウンの歴史
ボストンのチャイナタウンは、19世紀半ばに中国人労働者がアメリカに移民してきたことに起源を持つ。鉄道、製鉄所、漁業、レストラン、衣料品など様々な産業で働いていた移民たちは、1882年の中国人排斥法により厳しく制限され、職を失った多くの人々がチャイナタウンへと移住した。
20世紀初頭、チャイナタウンはボストンのレッドライト地区に組み込まれ、売春宿や麻薬密売の問題を抱えた。都市再開発の対象となり、1960年代には高速道路建設によって地域の一部が取り壊された。
これらの時代を経て、今日ではレストラン、ショップ、寺院、住宅が立ち並ぶ、文化的に活気ある地域として繁栄している。ボストンを代表するコミュニティの一つである。
