STORY
Mindscapes was an international cultural program reimagining approaches to mental health through art and culture, hosted by Wellcome. Connecting four global cities—New York, Bengaluru, Berlin, and Tokyo—the program sought to go beyond conventional medical frameworks, opening up new ways of understanding and addressing mental health at the intersection of science, culture, and society, at a time when one in four people globally face mental health challenges.
In Tokyo, the program unfolded around three main initiatives: "Convening," dialogue sessions examining Japanese mental health from multiple perspectives; the "UI Urban Investigation Project," an experimental collaborative investigation led by artists and youth; and Mindscapes Tokyo Week at Yurakucho Art Urbanism, where a year of work was brought together and shared.
Central to the program was a commitment to "Lived Experience," holding individual perspectives alongside professional expertise and creating space for insights rooted in everyday life.
