The title Salt of the Earth is drawn from the Gospel of Matthew 5:13—a Christian teaching describing someone who is down-to-earth, sincere, and genuine.

Invited to perform at a festival in Salt Lake City, Utah—the holy land of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—I saw this as an opportunity to confront questions of religion, faith, and personal values through my work. Inspired by the New Testament's original meaning and the literal "salt" in Salt Lake City, the performance consisted of remaining still inside an installation while visitors could observe me sweating.
